Abuja is Nigeria’s capital. Abuja was built primarily during the 1980s and replaced the former capital of Lagos in December 1991. According to 2011 estimates, the population is around 1.24 million people. The UN reported that Abuja grew by 139.7% between 2000 and 2010, a trend that has continued in recent years. As of 2015, the city is experiencing a growth rate of 35%, making it the fastest-growing city in Africa.
