Lesotho’s capital city is Maseru. Maseru is Lesotho’s largest city with 330,000 inhabitants, comprising about 10% of the country’s total population and about half of its urban population. The British established Maseru as a police camp and the capital when Lesotho became a British protectorate in 1869. Since its independence from Britain in 1966, Maseru’s economy has grown rapidly, especially in foreign investment and tourism.
